HYACINTHS L’innocence We have selected for you those Hyacinths that most nearly measure up to our ideal of quality. They may be planted from October to January. Plant in rich, light soil to a depth of five or six inches. The crown should always be covered at least four inches. Hyacinths outdoor or pot grown are improved by frequent applications of liquid manure until fiowers appear. For pot culture a single bulb should have a five-inch pot. Plant the bulbs so that the top of the bulb is even with the soil. Water thoroughly and place in a cool, dark situation. Care should be taken to have a good root growth before bringing to the light. This uusally takes from four to eight weeks. To grow in hyacinth glasses fill glass so water almost touches base of bulb. Put in lump of charcoal to keep the water pure. Change water about once a week. Keep in a dark place about six weeks and then bring to light, avoiding bright sunshine. BULB FIBRE CULTURE For bulb bowl culture — a single bulb should be given the same space as for pot culture. The Giant Named or Roman Hyacinths are the most satis- factory for this manner of growing. Thoroughly moisten the bulb fibre and firm carefully around the bulb leaving the top exposed. Place in the dark for several weeks to make good root growth and avoid excess watering. Our bulb fibre is an especially pre- pared peat fibre requiring no drain- age and may be used in all kinds of bowls and jardiniers. One pound of fibre will fill a quart measure. Covers the California flower garden completely. Price $2.00. 10 AGGELER & MUSSER SEED CO. ■ 1 ' Giant French Ranunculus RANUNCULUS The Ranunculus is one of our most popular early spring bloomers, being used extensively for massed beds or for borders. They may be planted from August to March but the early planting will produce a more sturdy growth and a greater number of flowers over a longer blooming period. Thousands of these bulbs are planted annually and each year at blooming time hundreds of people come to our store to inquire about them and to ask for bulbs when it is too late to plant. If you do not know what they are take a chance and plant a dozen or more and you will not regret it. We consider them one of our most satis- factory California bulbs for garden show or for cut flowers. Soak the roots for two hours and plant the claws down- ward. Plant six to eight inches apart and cover to a depth of two inches. GIANT FRENCH The Giant French Ranunculus is a semi-double variety but our mixture contains many which are almost real doubles. The Giant French are the most vigorous grow- ers, producing an abundance of bloom for about 2 months. It is one of our loveliest spring flowers for cutting. Giant French Mixed, large size 75c doz., $5.50 per 100. Medium size 50c doz., $3.50 per 100. Small size 35c per doz., $2.50 per 100.
